If I out any stock in the idea of a guilty pleasure I would say that Fast & Furious movies are a guilty pleasure. However, I do not think you should feel bad about something you enjoy. That said, Hobbs and Shaw is a near miss.

From UPHE.com:

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham return to their unforgettable roles as Hobbs and Shaw in this action-packed feature from the blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise! For years, hulking lawman Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and lawless outcast Deckard Shaw (Statham) have traded smack talk and body blows. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever, Hobbs and Shaw must partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves!

Hobbs and Shaw is completely ridiculous. Sure, this is a model of Fast & Furious movies and while the script outline of Hobbs & Shaw is identical to its anchor series, the quick quips and burns are not redeemed by and underlying theme of non-biological family. You could argue that it is there, but it is also forced under the guise of forgiveness.

Also, I enjoyed the movie. It is over long and a little too quippy, but it excels at mind numbing fight scenes and incredible car chases, or the formula for later F&F flicks. If it was up to me, they would have wrapped the movie at the first logical endpoint, but I shouldn’t get too deep into this because you may be reading this before watching the picture.

Hobbs & Shaw was fun, and it is probably a good flick to put on if you just need a shot of dopamine to brighten your day but don’t go in looking for a metaphysical meaning because you won’t find it.

It is rather packed with special features giving you more information than you will ever need.
